Skin rejuvenation
PRP may be discussed for collagen loss, fine lines, skin dullness, superficial scarring, UV damage, shadowing under the eyes and crepey skin. Skin type, pigment history and goals affect the treatment plan.
Skin, aesthetics and hair
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) uses growth factors from your own blood to support collagen production, skin quality and hair follicle health. Suitability, expected recovery and risks are reviewed before treatment.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) may suit patients seeking treatment for skin quality, hair thinning, fine lines, pigment concerns or melasma. A consultation is needed to confirm suitability and the treatment area.
Who this is for
A service category is a starting point, not a diagnosis. The clinician may recommend a different appointment, referral, follow-up or preparation step after review.
PRP may be discussed for collagen loss, fine lines, skin dullness, superficial scarring, UV damage, shadowing under the eyes and crepey skin. Skin type, pigment history and goals affect the treatment plan.
PRP growth factors act on hair follicles to improve the growth cycle, increase hair follicle count, and improve hair quality and thickness. It is used for both women and men.
PRP may be considered for melasma and hyperpigmentation that has been resistant to other treatments. Pigment risk and alternative options are discussed before treatment.
Treatment journey
Each treatment session follows the same staged sequence so patients understand what to expect at every step.
30 mL of blood is drawn from the arm, similar to a routine pathology test. Our clinic uses a TGA-approved centrifuge device to prepare a high-yield platelet-rich component for the procedure.
The skin or scalp is cleansed. A local anaesthetic may be applied to the scalp or treatment site to minimise discomfort during the procedure.
PRP is injected into the skin or scalp using the Hycoox automated injector or ultra-fine manual needles. The session typically takes 40 to 60 minutes including blood draw and processing.
PRP initiates a local stem cell response. Over the weeks and months following treatment, new collagen, elastin and blood vessels form to repair and regenerate the treated area.
Oral corticosteroids, blood-thinning medicines (including aspirin), non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines (such as ibuprofen), and supplements including garlic, ginkgo, ginseng, green tea, vitamin E, omega-3 and fish oils may affect PRP quality. Discuss these with your clinician.
High-strength cosmeceuticals containing vitamin A, retinol or glycolic acid, and recent microdermabrasion or aggressive peels should be paused before treatment. Your clinician will advise the specific timing.
Minimise caffeine, alcohol and fatty food on the day. Stay well hydrated by drinking at least one litre of water. Eat a healthy meal before attending.
Safety and expectations
Read the limits and aftercare notes before booking so the next step matches your concern and urgency.
Temporary bruising and swelling at the injection site is possible but not common. This usually resolves within a few days.
As with any injection procedure there is a small risk of infection, though it is rare. Proper aftercare minimises this risk.
Individual response to PRP varies. Results are not immediate. Skin improvements develop over weeks, and hair results may take 6 to 9 months. Multiple sessions are often recommended.
Active skin infection, certain blood disorders, ongoing chemotherapy and some medicines can make PRP unsuitable. Suitability is confirmed at consultation.
Protect the treated area from direct sunlight to reduce the risk of pigmentation changes. Use broad-spectrum sunscreen with high SPF.
Avoid vigorous exercise and excessive heat for 24 hours after treatment. Most patients can return to normal activities immediately.
Avoid aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines for 10 days after treatment to reduce bruising and bleeding risk.
Drink plenty of water to support the healing process. A post-treatment information sheet will be provided.

Frequently asked questions
PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. It is a concentrate derived from your own blood that contains growth factors and bio-active proteins used to stimulate tissue repair.
PRP uses your own blood, but bruising, swelling, infection, pigment changes and variable response are still discussed before treatment.
The best skin results are usually achieved with a series of three treatments at four to six week intervals, then a yearly maintenance session.
For hair loss, a series of three treatments at four-week intervals is recommended, with annual maintenance sessions. Our clinic uses TGA-approved equipment that produces a high platelet yield.
PRP results develop gradually. Some improvement may be visible within a few weeks as collagen production is stimulated, with continued improvement over several months.
New hair growth and better hair health can appear as early as two months, with noticeable results typically seen between six and nine months.
Recovery varies. Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness or bruising can occur, and vigorous exercise should usually be avoided for 24 hours.
PRP may be discussed alongside microneedling, radiofrequency or other treatments when clinically suitable. Your clinician will explain whether a combination is appropriate.
Skin type, pigment history and treatment goals are assessed before PRP. Your clinician will discuss suitability, pigment risk and alternatives.
PRP results are not permanent. Maintenance sessions are recommended to sustain the benefits. How long results last varies between individuals.
Current PRP fees are A$550 for hair, A$450 for face or neck, and A$350 for under eye. Your clinician confirms suitability and the planned area before treatment.
