BioFiller

Biofiller is an injectable made from your own body’s resources, safely modified to form a structured gel that replenishes volume and promotes skin rejuvenation. BioFiller is softer than HA filler and moves with the skin, making it suitable for volume loss in mobile areas.

BioFiller is an alternative to HA dermal fillers, and is suited to patients with bee allergies or who prefer natural over synthetically produced cosmetic products. BioFiller is absorbed by the body over time, and is a good option for patients trialling dermal fillers.

BioFiller has a superior performance to other autologous fillers – the albumin matrix formed is less susceptible to breakdown resulting in longer lasting results and fewer treatments than platelet-rich fibrin. The addition of platelet-rich-plasma creates the dual benefits of volume restoration and cell regeneration. The regeneration is cumulative over time improving skin appearance by promoting cellular activity, fibrin, and collagen production.

BioFiller is beneficial for:

  • Volume loss, particularly in the cheeks, hands, eye areas
  • Skin laxity particularly cheek, neck, and eye areas
  • Wrinkles
  • Knee and elbow wrinkling
  • UV damage

BioFiller is particularly appropriate for:

  • Bee allergy
  • Personal or religious values that preclude synthetic filler
  • Vegans

Consultations

A consultation with our clinical team is essential to discuss suitability for BioFiller, to discuss individual goals and expectations and to plan the treatment.

Patients do not need a referral.

Preparation

Some medications and treatments affect the efficacy and safety of the PRP procedure and should be discussed with your doctor.

These include:

  • Oral corticosteroids

  • Blood thinning medications (including aspirin)

  • Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications such as Nurofen

  • Supplements including Garlic, Ginko, Ginseng, Green Tea, Vitamin E, Multi-vitamins, Omega 3,6 and fish oils.

  • High strength cosmeceuticals containing Vitamin A, Retinol, Glycolic acid

  • Microdermabrasion, aggressive peels and exfoliants

On the day the following is recommended:

  • Minimise caffeine, alcohol and fatty food and ideally have a healthy diet

  • Be well hydrated by drinking water.

Procedure

Similar to having a routine test, blood is taken from the arm. Using Therapeutic Goods Association (TGA) approved equipment this is centrifuged (spun), separating the blood products. Platelet rich plasma is reserved to add to the BioFiller gel to produces the regenerative benefits. Other serum components are heated and cooled, changing the albumin to a firmer matrix resistant to breakdown.

BioFiller is injected into the skin by our doctor using a fine-gauge cannula. Additional anaesthetic is not required. You can either sit or recline during treatment and the aftercare is minimal.

Aftercare

For approximately 24 hours after treatment, avoid:

  • strenuous activity
  • extensive sun or heat exposure
  • alcoholic beverages

For 10 days after treatment avoid non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (such as ibuprofen, or ‘Nurofen’)

A post-procedure information sheet will be provided

Follow-up may be required to review results and address any concerns

Results

The results are immediate and develop further over the few days after treatment. Rejuvenation and improvement in skin condition should evolve for several months due to the inclusion of platelet rich plasma in the gel.

Duration of benefit

The volumising effect will be immediate and lasts up to 6 months, though some patients will require a second treatment 4-6 weeks after the first. The rejuvenating results from the platelet rich plasma take weeks to months to see full benefit.

Risks

Possible adverse events are bruising, swelling, feeling of ‘buzzing’ which is a biological effect. There have been no recorded cases of vascular occlusion (blocked blood vessels) though this remains theoretically possible. Infrequently small lumps may form – these resolve without treatment.
